The Start of The Adventure
Growing up in a small central Pennsylvania town, I was exposed to many travel presentations on Africa, Europe, Asia and South America. A family friend in the Air Force created slide shows when she was home of the places she visited. We also had a friend that travelled extensively in Peru and Chile and gave slide shows when she was home.
My parents, along with some friends started the a camping club in Central Pennsylvania. Summers were spent in state parks and my parents commuted to work.
As a family, we camped and traveled around the US. I have fond memories of leaving at 3am on trips. My brother, sister and I slept in the back seat and awoke to some new site (Ontario, New York City, Atlantic City, or a wilderness camp site).
Camping, travel and exploring new parts of the world was in my blood early on. This desire to see the world led to a move to Switzerland in 1986. Eighteen years later we returned to a very different USA, or perhaps we had changed.
So, the adventures continues in August 2022. I will be exploring parts of Canada and United States, meeting old friends and making new friends, and following the warmth of the sun. No, I’m not adventuring to Wisconsin in January.
The trip will begin in Central Pennsylvania and progress north to New York, Vermont, Maine and Newfoundland. As Fall settles in, I’ll be traveling back through Nova Scotia and New England for “leaf peeping”. I hope to meet up with my sons for some hikes in Maine and New Hampshire.
I’ll make my way down the east coast to Florida before winter hits the North East. If all goes as planned, I’ll wander across the south and make my way to Utah and hopefully enjoy some skiing, hiking and winter camping.
As spring arrives, I plan to travel up the coast, arriving in Alaska for summer. The trip will continue back through Canada, Northern States, Central States and finally back to New England.
Along the way, I plan to hike, cycle and photograph my experiences. I’ll share what I learn on ottwheels.com.
