Drive to Prince Edward Island (PEI)
The 23 hours spent on the ferry was draining. It’s not as bad as say flying to Taiwan from New York City, because you can getup and walk around and there are plenty of places to feel secluded.
Once off the ferry at 9:30, I had a six-hour drive ahead of me. I had been on some of these roads on the way to Newfoundland and I knew I just had to push through. I filled up just in case there were long stretches without gas. I try to never let the gas tank get below half full. I’m running low on cash and some stations don’t except credit cards at the pump. Knowing a little bit about dispensers, I assume they were trying to avoid the chip card upgrade costs.
I bought a few extra croissants and a coffee at Tim Hortons to help sustain me.
The entire trip, from St. John’s, NL to Charlottetown, PEI took 34 hours. I highly recommend take a cabin on the ferry if you ever take this crossing.
I booked four nights at the KOA on Prince Edward Island near Charlottetown, PEI. This is another beautiful KOA camping site, with a large store situated on the West River. I had a no frills tent site with a view of the river. The washrooms (Canadian for bathroom) were a two minute walk away. I was feeling pretty grimy and got my shower out of the way.
As night approached, the moon came up directly in front of me over the river. It was bright orange and lit up the sky. The shore was lined with people trying to capture a shot to send to friends. Yours truly included.
Exhausted, I fell asleep around 9:30. Around 2 AM I woke because the sky was so bright. A bright moon hung over head and lit the river. I got up and tried to capture a few shots. The sky was filled with stars and there was a beautiful blue sheen on the water. There seems to be a tidal component to the West River. It was higher at this time of the morning.
