Planning and Top Gun

Most of this day was planning for the trip to Nova Scotia. I will be taking the ferry from Argentia, NL over to Sydney, NS.

Avalon Mall: Entrance

I went to the Avalon Mall which is about 10 minutes from the Pippy Park Campgrounds. I spent a few hours sitting at the Starbucks, watching people and organizing photos. I still have many photos to organize and purge.

The Avalon Mall is deceptively large. In the late afternoon, I took a tour of the mall. It’s multiple layers and reaches out in different directions underground. There’s a huge entertainment center and an iMax Theater with 9 additional smaller theaters. There’s the typical eatery, but the difference in this mall is the size of the eating area. It’s close to the bus terminal and it seems to be a meeting place for people from around the area. The food selections were also more upscale. I had red curry with tofu at Thai Express and a chicken and bean burrito in a whole wheat tortillas at Muncho Burrito.

I finished the Burrito and though I would take in a movie. The IMAX Theater had Top Gun Maverick starting in an hour. This was perfect timing. The theater was only 10% full. I guess everyone had already seen the movie. It was a stunning action-packed movie. A woman, about 6 seats to my right, brought her children (~5, 7 and 9). The youngest was saying, I want to go, I’m scarred. The IMAX sound level was at 95 db (e.g. loud) and the two youngest looked worried and frightened. Why would you take children that age to see Top Gun?

Quote: “It’s time to let go.” The Admiral, Iceman suggests that Maverick should let others take over and do the job they were trained for.

I was back at the camp site at 9:30 pm and did a rough set of things to get ready to leave in the morning.
