El Paso To Alamogordo
I started the day with a hearty French Toast breakfast at Cracker Barrel. The layout of this Cracker Barrel was new. The woman who greeted me said, “I’ll seat you at a table with an outlet”. She noticed I had a laptop. I’ve only seen one other CB that had outlets near the tables. Even the wi-fi in the parking lot was very strong. I actually watched a video in the car.
I contacted the KOA in Alamogordo, New Mexico and they only had one site available for one night. Apparently, this was spring break time and people were booking for the week. I actually wanted to spend a few days and explore the White Sands area.
It took me a few hours to drive to Alamogordo and then an hour to setup the campsite. Someone at the campground had a sense of humor. The speed limit seemed to be something out of Harry Potter.
The campsite was nicely laid out. Plenty of drainage if it rained, and it had water and electrical. The facilities were all close by and well maintained. There were trees to provide shade in summer and Cacti to fill in the landscape. It was a relaxing environment.
I made lunch and then went to the library to catchup on things. There was an Albertsons beside the library with a Starbucks. I couldn’t help myself.
It was a day to relax, read and get ready for the next phase of the trip through New Mexico. This state will also need to be cut short. I’m trying to make it to Utah by the start of April to meetup with family to do some hiking.
