Little Rock, AR

It was very windy last night which made it seem much colder than 35F. There was a campground downtown, but they didn’t allow tents. So, I stayed at the Cracker Barrel. I had eaten too much last night and decided to skip breakfast.

I headed to Planet Fitness nearby and used the stationary bike for 30 minutes and worked up a good sweat. I relaxed a few minutes, showered and used the HydroMessage machine. I drove to a Starbucks by the capitol building and spent an hour planning the next day.

It was noon, the sky was blue with a few dashes of clouds and the sun was shining brightly. I was off to the capitol.

Arkansas State Capitol

The Arkansas State Capitol building is located in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was completed in 1915. It was designed in the neoclassical architectural style, which was popular at the time and is characterized by its use of columns, domes, and symmetrical designs.

Little Rock, Arkansas Capitol Building

The building features a central dome that is modeled after the dome of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. It is made of reinforced concrete and is covered in copper. The building was designed to have a statue of a figure on top of the dome. However, due to budget constraints at the time of construction, the statue was never installed. Instead, the dome is topped with a simple cupola. There have been proposals over the years to add a statue to the dome, but none have come to fruition.

The exterior of the building is clad in limestone and features numerous decorative elements, including sculptures and reliefs. Unique to the capital is the large bronze doors at the front.

There are several monuments located around the capital grounds, including the Little Rock Nine Memorial, which commemorates the nine African-American students who integrated Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Other monuments include the Confederate Soldiers Monument, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Gold Star Memorial, and the Arkansas Law Enforcement Memorial. The grounds also feature numerous trees, gardens, and fountains, to relax and take in the surrounding capitol grounds.

Clinton Presidential Library

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library is a world-class museum and research facility located less than a mile from the capital building. The library is dedicated to the life and career of former President Bill Clinton, who served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. The library is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in American history, politics, or the life of one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.

Clinton Presidential Library

The Clinton Presidential Library is an interesting modern structure. It was designed by world-renowned architect James Polshek and features a strikingly modern design. The building is clad in glass and steel and features a cantilevered roof that appears to float above the main entrance. Inside, the library features a variety of exhibits, including artifacts from the Clinton presidency, interactive displays, and multimedia presentations.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Clinton Presidential Library is its commitment to sustainability. The building was designed to be as energy-efficient as possible, and it features a variety of green technologies, including a geothermal heating and cooling system, a green roof, and rainwater harvesting. The library also features a variety of educational programs and events that promote sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Presidents Daily Itinerary For 1993

The Clinton Presidential Library is more than just a museum, however. It is also a research facility that provides access to the Clinton Presidential Archives, which include over 80 million pages of documents, photographs, and other materials related to the Clinton presidency. The archives are a valuable resource for researchers, scholars, and anyone interested in the history of the United States. I was fascinated by the binders with the presidential daily itinerary organized by month and year. They didn’t schedule bathroom breaks or sleep, but almost everything else is in there.

The institution provides a unique and fascinating look into the life and career of one of the most important figures in American history. Whether you are a history buff, a political junkie, or simply interested in architecture and design, the Clinton Presidential Library is well worth a visit.

Adjoining Bridge

After visiting the library I walked the bridge that had been converted to a bike and walking path. I enjoyed getting the perspective of the city from high above the river. I love rust…

Drive North

Using recreation.gov, I booked a site at the John F Kennedy campground near Heber Springs, AR. I planned to hike The Collins Creek Trail in the morning. It was dark and cold when I arrived and the temperate was dropping into the mid-20s. I decided to stay in the car to stay warm. The light was delicious as the sun set. It was difficult to pullover and get photos.
